Youth Chorus of the Finger Lakes was established in the fall of 2018 by Founder and Artistic Director, Kristy Ingersoll. YCFL currently encompasses or has encompassed students from the following school communities: Bloomfield, Canandaigua, Geneva, Homeschool Community, Manchester-Shortsville, Marcus Whitman, Midlakes, Naples, St. Mary's, and Victor. Hopefully the program will continue to grow and include more surrounding districts. There are three choirs established within the organization: Vivace is grades K-2, ConBrio is grades 3-6, and Melodia is grades 7-12.
Currently, YCFL performs two major concerts in one school year and a handful of invited performances in the community. Some of these invited gigs have included: Eastman School of Music Invitational with Dr. Philip Silvey (2024), recording for a promotional advertisement for the launch of a new kids show through Eastman professor Mark Watters (2024), performing for the Geneva Kiwanis Club Chicken BBQ Fundraising event (2024 & 2023), recording a children's choir part for a 9/11 Tribute Video through the Eastman School of Music which was played for a special event in NYC (2022), singing virtually for The Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes Gala (2020), Farmington-Victor Kiwanis Club at their St. Patrick's Fundraising dinner (2019), and performing the National Anthem for the Rochester Red Wings baseball team (2019). It is important to Mrs. Ingersoll that the students give back to their communities with their voices and some hard work! YCFL goes caroling each December and organizes a service project every spring.
The mission of YCFL is to provide youth with an engaging music experience that fosters critical thinking and discovery learning, sharing emotional and artistic expression through performance. And to have fun while doing it!
